Behind the Scenes: Kenya Karogoto

 

Known for it’s fertile volcanic soil and abundant rainfall, the Nyeri region of Kenya is one of the most sought-after locations for coffee. The rich agricultural haven is situated on the slopes of the snow capped Mount Kenya. We’re proud to work with the Tekangu Farmers Cooperative Society, which handles 2,900 farmers to help deliver our ripe coffee cherries.

The TFCS pays careful attention to detail during the pulp and drying process, which helps give our Karogoto its signature grapefruit flavor. TFCS farmers take sustainability and environmental conservation seriously. In addition to the responsible use agrochemicals, tree planting projects help conserve areas with indigenous and exotic trees.

Most farmers are part of the Kikuyu tribe and are also involved in horticulture farming with a ready market in the nearby Karatina town. Over the past few years, TFCS was UTZ CERTIFIED for sustainability—turning a coffee growing tradition into a thriving business.
