The most excellent mornings are those when you wake up with some extra time to spend on your coffee. Whether it’s a workday or a weekend, there’s a nice sense of accomplishment that comes with taking a little more care with your coffee and brewing yourself the best, most badass first cup of the day.
The V60 pourover brewer is a sweet way to treat yourself to a great cup of coffee. Easy clean up and single-cup brewing let you play with the flavors; if the first cup wasn’t perfect, you can change up the variables and make your second cup even more satisfying and delicious. For this mornings V60 cup, we tried out our new Sumatran Red Badger, aiming to get those smoky juniper notes to come out and play on our taste buds. Here’s the play-by-play for 1 cup of bangin’ V60 coffee:
1) Grind 15g of coffee at a V60 grind (somewhat finer than Chemex).
2) Heat 240g of water to 206 degrees.
3) Bloom that baby! Saturate the grounds with 30g of water and let them sit for 25 seconds before starting to pour the rest of your water. Try to pour in slow, even circles that start in the middle and wind outward.
4) Aim for a total brew time of 2 minutes, 30 seconds.
5) Drink up!
