Coffee Lingo: Red Eye

Red Eye: (n.) the best of both worlds – coffee and espresso.

A Red Eye is a drink that consists of brewed coffee topped off with a shot of espresso. Before double shots became the standard espresso pull, a Red Eye usually contained one shot while a “Black Eye” had two shots. If you order a Red Eye at a La Colombe café, it comes with two shots of espresso. Exactly what you need to roll right on past a sleepless night into the next day.

*Pro-tip: Cool down and perk up by getting an iced Red Eye!
