A familiar coffee with a new mission. Introducing our new special-edition Lyon coffee featuring artwork titled “I Matter” by Chicago-based artist @naimah_creates that celebrates Black lives everywhere in honor of those fighting for justice and equity in our community.
A reminder that the impact of this coffee is larger than the taste.
About the Cause
We are proud to support the ACLU, who fight for our civil rights and civil liberties.
As a part of our commitment to fighting for social justice, $2 from every box sold will support the ACLU in defending the rights guaranteed to all of us by the Constitution, including voting rights, criminal justice reform, racial justice, LGBTQ rights, immigrants’ rights and women’s rights.
La Colombe’s support of the ACLU began back in March to fight for gender equity and women’s rights in the workplace. To date, we have raised over $32K for this cause. We’re thrilled to continue that relationship to support their work in fighting injustice.
About the Artist
Meet Naimah Thomas.
Naimah is a Chicago-based artist, art therapist and licensed professional counselor. She grew up learning to color in the lines to drawings of stick figures. As a young girl she had the opportunity to attend an apprentice art program where she met other artists from around Chicago, learned new skills such as watercolor, bookbinding and paper making. That experience laid the foundation for the mixed media artwork you see today.
Naimah received her Bachelor of Arts with a focus in graphic design from Columbia College in Chicago. She later went on to get her master in Art Therapy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Her current practice is heavily informed by her experiences as a Black women, survivor and art therapist. She used art as a way to examine the complex intersections of culture and mental health, primarily in communities of color.
“Not only are you using this as a way to be expressive, but you’re also going to learn new information and bring attention to some of the stuff that’s happening,” she said in an interview with Insider.
“You are seen, you are soft, you are kind, you are worthy, you are deserving,” she said. “I hope that I can start to capture that in some of my art pieces.”
